How can I stop emails from landing in the junk folder?
Each email client (e.g. Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, Apple, etc) has their own filtering system and they don't share how they decide whether an email is spam or not with providers like ourselves or anyone else. If they did, spam would be harder to filter across the internet. So these email clients sometimes aggressively filter out emails we might consider legit. And there's unfortunately nothing we're able to control about it directly in Recapture.
By default, we use a high-reputation sender domain that is generic (much like MailChimp and other ESP services)--rcmsv.net. We've done everything we can to make this deliverable--setup the SPF, DKIM and DMARC records, optimzed the servers for sender reputation, and so on. But there's only so far that takes us. Even with all of that, we can still get emails marked as spam and that affects deliverability for some folks. It's not always predictable.
That being said, there are some things you can do to improve your overall client email hygiene:
- Use a branded sender domain (this is a signal to providers that your domain is a legit sender and is taking appropriate precautions to avoid bad email behavior)
- Make your emails very specific, personal, and less generic (customers don't want generic stuff showing up in their inbox and it annoys them most of the time)
- Put in content that your customers really want or NEED to see--things like reviews, testimonials, FAQs, how to contact you, etc. If you're saying the same thing 3 times, that's more likely to trigger the spam filter because customers will mark it as junk since it's not useful to them.
- Don't send too many reminders (after 3 emails, customers tend to get really annoyed and they're more likely to mark things as spam)
